Camversation Podcast, Five From the Archive with Rob Stimpson
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Mark for an episode of the Camversation Podcast series, Five From the Archive, where we discussed photography, storytelling, travel, and some of the experiences behind a selection of my images. (YouTube)
The conversation explored how photography became more than simply capturing a scene for me. Many of the images we discussed were tied to moments spent in remote wilderness locations, including Antarctica, South Georgia Island, and northern landscapes closer to home in Muskoka and Algonquin Park.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the interview was the chance to talk about the stories behind the photographs. Often the real experience is not just the final image, but the weather, the wildlife encounters, the long waits for light, and the atmosphere of the places themselves. Those moments are what continue to inspire my work.
The Five From the Archive format was especially interesting because it focused on a handful of photographs and the personal experiences connected to them, rather than simply discussing camera gear or technical details. It became a conversation about exploration, patience, and the emotional connection photography can create between people and the natural world.
I’m grateful to Mark and the Camversation Podcast for the opportunity to share some of those stories and reflections.
